A power vent water heater uses natural gas or propane as its fuel source and requires electricity to operate a built-in fan or blower that will remove combustion gases from your home. Its fuel source is solely used to heat the water within the tank and a nearby electrical outlet is required to power the fan. This type of water heating system can be vented horizontally through a wall and installed in a location without access to a vertical vent or chimney. The fan installed on top of the water heater cools the air so the vent can be run in PVC pipe.
